Cambridge Construction is supporting community fitness as a sponsor of the 2010 Denver Open Squash Tournament at Lifetime Fitness in Parker, CO.

While being a fully competitive tournament for all levels, the tournament is focusing also on players with families that find it hard to play weekend tournaments. The Family Day Pass Option, family friendly environment and flexibility in scheduling matches should enable this. They can also try and schedule matches to help those traveling from a distance.

Divisions: Men's 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, Open. Junior Round Robins. Women's Round Robin if possible

Entry Fees: Adults $50, Junior $20, Optional 4 Family Member Club Day Pass $5

Rules: Dunlop Green Dot Hi-Altitude Ball. Eye Protection is encouraged. Par11 Scoring.Hospitality & Favors: Entrants will receive a tournament t-shirt, light snacks, brunch Saturday and Sunday. Trophies awarded to champions.

Schedule: Play begins at 5:00pm Friday and will conclude on Sunday until complete. Each draw will have a consolation draw. All players are assured 2 matches. The Junior Round Robin will start at roughly Noon Saturday for 2 hours. First match time and brackets will be available via email 5PM Thursday March 11th.

Note: Tournament Director reserves the right to combine or cancel draws dependent on the number of entries received. The Tournament Director will do everything in his power to facilitate personal schedules, etc. The Junior Round Robin format will be determined based on the number of entries and skill level breakdown. Some skill levels could be converted to round robins if there are not enough participants

According to NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Aging in Place means living in one’s home independently regardless of age or ability.

How big is Aging in Place?

89% of people 50+ wish to remain in their own homes indefinitely (AARP).
75% of remodelers have seen an increase in requests for aging in place work (NAHB).
60% of remodelers already perform aging in place work (NAHB).
Over half of all 55+ households rate their current home a 9 or 10 out of 10 (American Housing Survey).
The aging population is the number two issue to affect the remodeling industry over the next five years, only behind the availability of skilled labor (NAHB).

What should my home contain if I want to age in place?

A master bedroom and bath on the first floor.
A low or no-threshold entrance to the home with an overhang.
Lever-style door handles.
No change in levels on the main floor.
Bright lighting in all areas, especially places like stairways.
A low-maintenance exterior.
Non-slip flooring at the main entryway.
An open floor plan, especially in the kitchen/dining area.
Handrails at all steps.

2009 Colorado Awards for Remodeling Excellence

Denver Metro HBA Colorado Awards for Remodeling Excellence (CARE) is the largest, and longest-running contest recognizing remodeling of all types.

It is open to any firm or individual in the state. Categories are numerous, and recognize everything from budget kitchens to green remodels. Unlike other design contests, this one is open to all, not just members of the association. It is judged blind, making it a fair competition that recognizes excellence in remodeling, no matter the authorship.

Great News for Denver

On May 19, Denver was named America’s No. 1 city on the verge of recovery in a segment on NBC’s “Today” show. Real estate expert Barbara Corcoran, a regular guest on the show, said Denver more than any other U.S. city is “clearly on a rebound.”

Forbes Magazine also just listed Denver as the #1 city to buy a home. The report ranked the 25 largest U.S. metro areas on the basis of change in price per square foot, frequency of real-estate transactions, and how evenly distributed home-sales activity is in a metro area.

“Denver tops the list,” Forbes said. “It had 25 percent of its property sales occur within approximately 25 percent of the city’s ZIP codes. This means sales in various parts of the city were fairly evenly distributed, showing proportionate activity. The further a city deviates from the 25 percent mark, the less evenly distributed the market is in that city, and thus the lower that city ranks.” (Read full Forbes article)
